If you are one of those who get lost with Google Maps addresses, perhaps this new tool in the app will help you. This is an update that has just been released and that guides users to reach their destination using augmented reality.

Those areas that do not have a “Street View” record in Google will not be able to use the augmented reality function.

This new tool, dubbed “Live View”, works with the help of the camera of the user’s mobile device. The goal is for him to hold his phone in the direction in which he walks so that Google will superimpose a series of arrows on the camera images that indicate the way forward.

This improvement allows the user to be more easily located, especially in places where the signs are not of the same language or cannot be seen clearly.

In addition, for many users, the icon that Google used to locate them on the map generated some confusion and sometimes the icon was located elsewhere on the map. However, with this update, since the tool depends on the activation of the camera, there is a smaller margin of error.

However, it is important to note that Live View depends on the Street View tool in order to function. This means that if the place where you are does not have a record of images on Google Maps (through Street View), then you will not be able to use the augmented reality function.

At the moment Google has only released the beta version of this update, but over the next few months Live View will be available for all iOS and Android devices that have an augmented reality support at the system level.

In any case, in order to use the tool, the user must only place an address, click on the icon to start the route and then select the option of «walking». Once the user enters that section, a button called “Live View” will appear at the bottom of the screen, with which the function is activated.

So the next time you go to follow an address on Google Maps, see if you already have the option of using augmented reality as a guide.

The launch of this function is not the first incursion of the technology giant in the area of augmented reality. In the past, Google has experimented with this technology, for example, to recreate animals in real size. However, this is the first time that the company merges augmented reality with one of its most popular services, which opens up a whole world of possibilities for this type of innovation.
