With less than a month of launching its own gaming platform, Snapchat is once again venturing into the gaming industry with the launch of a software development kit, or SDK, with which it will enable the use of Bitmoji within other platforms of games.
“Snapchat has created a QR code scanning system so that users can export their Bitmoji characters to their computers or TV.”
With this tool, Snapchat offers videogame developers the possibility of incorporating Bitmoji custom avatars, giving the user a more personalized gaming experience.
To achieve the creation of the SDK, Snapchat has used the Unity, Unreal and Play Canvas systems, which were used to develop the Bitmoji 3D technology used in the Snap Games.
In addition to providing this kit for software development, Snapchat has created a QR code scanning system so that users can export their Bitmoji characters to their computers or TV.
With this system, the user will be able to select to use his Bitmoji in the videogame, through a QR code that will appear on the screen and that should be scanned with the Snapchat camera. Once the code has been scanned, the app will send the Bitmoji data to the video game platform to enable its use.
However, despite being a free tool, the Snapchat SDK can not be used by any video game company, but must be approved by Snapchat.
This is because the company does not want the Bitmojis to be used for violent video games or where the characters inflict physical pain on avatars.
However, one of the most anticipated customers for Snapchat is the popular videogame Fortnite, which despite containing violent scenes, presents them in such a caricatured way that it is compatible with the Bitmoji format.
In this sense, Fortnite would be an ideal partner due to the demographic to which it appeals, which closely resembles Snapchat’s age range, that is, between 13 and 34 years old.
The incorporation of Bitmoji in important videogame platforms such as Fortnite is a very likely reality if one takes into account that most video game developers usually build custom avatars from scratch, which implies large sums of money and time.
However, the free SDK of Snapchat and the ease of its incorporation solve the problems of the developers and it becomes an advertising alternative for Snapchat.
In addition, the possible incorporation of paid elements in the Bitmoji platform allows the company to obtain revenues while advertising for free. In this sense, Snapchat has raised the possibility of charging for clothing or exclusive items that allow users to customize their Bitmoji with elements of major brands such as Supreme.
