The Department of Defense of the United States has requested $ 304 million of budget to fund an investigation to find new types of weapons based on space. Its objective is to get ahead with new technologies to the missiles that other countries are creating.

As if taken from a science fiction novel, Pentagon researchers talk about neutral particle beams, high-power lasers and microwaves that can compete with weapons that countries such as China, Russia, North Korea or Iran already have ready.

It is a new type of war, after moving on to the air attacks that dominated the Second World War, the military of the first powers in the world look towards space. But at the moment everything remains in conjecture, they need money to investigate and find that technology that could work, that is the first step.

Of the 304 million dollars needed by the US Department of Defense, 15 would be used for exploration to see if satellites equipped with lasers could deactivate enemy missiles just as they leave the launch pads and before that leaves the atmosphere. This study could take only six months of work.

The second step proposed is to analyze the functionality of the neutral particle beams that could also interrupt the missiles. These subatomic particles move at a speed very similar to that of light, a bit slower than lasers whose photons are as fast as light.

Defense officials have set 2023 as the year in which they could be prepared to test the effectiveness of neutral particles in Earth’s orbit. A theory that was already implemented in the 1989 BEAR project when they launched a beam of these particles into space from a rocket.

Wars of the future

In February a Pentagon report claimed that both China and Russia are developing space-based weapons and that within a year they would be ready to put them into orbit. Although many of us affirm these affirmations to us of new, the certain thing is that for a long time that the military of all the world already considers which will be the next border to surpass. After all, the main objective of a good strategist is to anticipate the movements of the enemy.

Showing his political style, Donald Trump, has been talking about space wars for years and many are the experts who talk about the responsibility that Artificial Intelligence could have in the beginning and development of the Third World War.

To get an idea of how far the technology could take us, a few months ago the alarm went off with the news that China and Russia were collaborating in an experiment to modify the atmosphere. The excuse was to improve the reception of radio frequencies, but experts from all over the world put their hands in their heads and denounced that this idea could have a highly dangerous military use for the planet.

It is important to remember that before these two countries, the US had already carried out a similar but less powerful experiment. All struggle to get ahead of others, and now we know that one of the ideas is to use satellites as blockers of other countries’ missiles, although it is only a very small part of what we could create for a future fight in the space.

Remember what Albert Einstein said:

“I do not know how the third world war will be, I only know that the fourth will be with stones and spears.”
