The number of people using Tumblr has been drastically reduced since last December 17th the company decided to suppress all types of pornographic content on the platform.

“Tumblr banned pornographic content on December 17th.”

Not finding on Tumblr what they were looking for, users have gone to other alternative options, just as they announced when they announced the banning of porn, which finally became effective.

Now, three months after the measure came into effect, some conclusions can be drawn and the main one is clear: Tumblr traffic has fallen by 30% since last December.

Three months ago, Tumblr had more than 521 million unique visitors. However, in January it dropped to 437 million and in February the figure dropped to 370 million, almost half compared to the peak of 642 million unique visitors it obtained in July 2018.

The veto explicit sexual content has made many users of the platform abandon it, and that despite the ban, it is still possible to find some of these contents on Tumblr.

In fact, the company itself indicated that it would continue to host some of these contents in the future, although it would hide them so that they would not be as visible to users as they have been up to now. However, the amount is considerably lower, which has caused Internet users to look for other options.

There is also much less movement in user communities that used Tumblr to talk about sex, not only about pornographic issues, but also motivations about well-being and health. Traffic in these forums has also been reduced by 30%.

Despite the decline, the company’s CEO, Jeff D’Onofrio, says that movement and prohibition were necessary. What is your opinion? Did you use Tumblr? Have you stopped using it?
