After about five years, Amazon ends the sale of the famous Dash buttons with which you can buy again and again the same product. We tell you what happened and the reason for the decision.

They are one of the craziest ideas Amazon has had and were very successful among consumers, although in some countries like Germany it has come to prohibit its sale.

These small devices the size of a car key with Wifi, for which you do not know yet, have a single button that was used to order the purchase of a specific product. With this idea, users save the need to point that product on the shopping list and then have to enter the web to place the order.

Once the button is associated to your Amazon account through an application and connected to the Wi-Fi network, if you run out of coffee or detergent, just press the specific Dash button of that product. This assured Amazon purchases and especially brands, since each button was for a specific product, but also for a specific brand. This is the main complaint that has been attributed to these Amazon buttons that will no longer be sold.

Why they have banned the Amazon Dash Button in Germany

One of the countries that has put the most difficult to Amazon Dash buttons has been Germany, which at the end of January banned the sale of these devices. Amazon described the sentence as “hostile to innovation”, but the German courts considered that they encouraged compulsive purchases, as well as not informing the user of price changes before making a new purchase.

Now it has been the company itself that has decided to stop selling buttons worldwide, although those that have already been purchased will remain active for the moment, so users who are used to using them should not worry, they can continue buying with those buttons. or in its virtual version from the mobile application.

However, Amazon’s explanation of this device makes no mention of the legal barrier, but instead of technological innovation. Yes, according to Amazon, the Dash Button has been a victim of its own success, meaning that with the latest boost from smart homes and the arrival of voice to mobile assistants and speakers, Dash buttons are no longer needed.

Daniel Rausch, vice president of Amazon, was one of the greatest promoters of this technology, which was always considered by the company as a symbol of innovation and a pioneer in the world of smart homes.

Amazon Echo is the intelligent speaker that integrates the virtual voice assistant Alexa. It has dimensions of 148 x 88 x 88 mm and allows controlling other intelligent devices of the home such as lights, appliances, etc.

Now instead of giving the button, many people can directly order their virtual assistant by voice to make the purchase and indicate the price that is the product at that time, or looking for any offer related to it. Moreover, Amazon is one of the most driving this new technology with its virtual assistant Alexa and the range of intelligent speakers Amazon Echo.

In this way the Dash buttons remain for the history of the Internet of Things (IoT) and make way for the next stage of virtual assistants and Artificial Intelligence.
