The Japanese automaker Honda Motor has announced on Tuesday that it will close its plant in the British town of Swindon (southwest of England) in 2021, which will mean the cut of some 3,500 jobs.

The president and CEO of the company, Takahiro Hachigo, confirmed this decision at a press conference on Tuesday, which had been carried out by British media, and which takes place in the current context of the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union.

The plant currently produces more than 100,000 Honda Civic vehicles per year, 90 percent of which are exported to Europe and the United States.
