Facebook has announced a series of new features for its “small size” application Messenger Lite, the app that condenses some of the Messenger tools but that occupies less memory on the device.

Among other new features, from now on, the more than 200 million users that Messeneger Lite has will be able to send and receive animated GIFs, according to Krish Gali, product manager of Facebook, in a post published on the company’s corporate blog.

“From now on, animated GIFs and a greater variety of files can be sent through Messenger Lite.”

Until now, GIFs were available in the app, but they were not animated. With this new functionality, users can search on a keyboard outside the platform, such as the Google keyboard, and use their search engine to find the GIF that best suits the message they want to transmit.

In addition, Facebook adds new personalization possibilities to the chats within Messenger Lite and from now on you can change the background color of a conversation. This change will also appear to the other person who is part of the chat.

On the other hand, Facebook expands the types of files that can be sent through the optimized version of Messenger, which now supports videos, photos, audio or text files.

To do so, simply click on the icon with the form of a plus (“+”) located in the lower left corner of the screen and a drop-down will appear, with the contents stored in the terminal, so that users can select what content they want to share.

Facebook takes time to promote the use of its messaging application in “light mode”, an app that, due to its light weight, is ideal for low-end phones that are in bad coverage environments. Therefore, it is used mainly in markets in developing countries.

A few months ago, the service enabled the option to make video calls through Messenger Lite, which was very well received by users. Just wait to see what news brings the company Mark Zuckerberg for Messenger Lite for 2019.
