Facebook Messenger is carrying out internal tests of a new functionality so that two users can watch videos at the same time, in a synchronized way.
“The new feature would improve access to videos between two users, improving what Watch Party offers.”
This new functionality is similar to the well-known Watch Party, but with a point of greater accessibility by not having to search the contents in the Groups or in the news feed, simply sharing the content can be enjoyed synchronized with the recipient .
These tests have been discovered by Ananay Arora, founder of the Timebound task management application, by analyzing the source code of Facebook Messenger.
In the text of the code you can see phrases like “click to see together now” or “comment the same video at the same time”, which indicate that the users with whom the visualization is shared will receive a notification about the start of the video. So far, Facebook has only confirmed that internal tests are being carried out, without giving more details regarding the new functionality.
Due to the lack of details provided by the company, it is still unknown where the option to share video viewing synchronized or the origin of such content will be hosted.
A few weeks ago, Facebook announced the availability of the Google-owned platform on its Smart loudspeaker Portal, but with the tests carried out now it shows that the company’s interest is still that the videos are consumed within its platform.
It should be remembered that the company of Mark Zuckerberg is going through another legal procedure due to the failures related to its metrics of viewing videos in the company. According to a group of advertisers who sued the company, Facebook knew that those video statistics did not offer real data, a mistake that they ignored so that the bids of those who wanted to put their ads on the platform were higher.
